New Art Print Release: Elephants Never Forget

New 4-color, silkscreen printed art print "Elephants Never Forget", click for more details or to purchase from my website.

Hooray! I finally had the chance to print a new art print that I’ve been wanting to do for a long, long time. Introducing our new “Elephants Never Forget” hand pulled silkscreen art print. Sharp-eyed strawberryluna aficionados may recall a similar illustration from a poster for Xiu Xiu from way back in 2006. We still liked these two so much, we brought them back to life in a new hand pulled silkscreen art print.

Freshly available for purchase here at my website and also in my Etsy shop here.

Elephants really don’t forget a thing. And when you’ve found your perfect match, what’s to forget? Fall in love, stay in love. It’s simple!

  • I love elephants.
  • They are amazing and noble creatures.
  • I think they are perfect to symbolize the “forever” part of being in love.

Elephants Never Forget is my 4-color, all hand screenprinted love forever art print with hand mixed Cyan, Magenta and Black inks. Super fun overprinting layers of ink make a soft purple where Magenta & Cyan overlap. Magic! Edition of 200. Size: 16 x22 inches (39.4 cm x 55.9 cm.) Paper: no acid, archival Cougar, White 100lb cover weight.

Additional photos below are from my studio during the hand silkscreen printing process. Click any image below to see more process photos in my Flickr account too.

Marimekko Love: Spring/Summer 2011 Fashion Show

Click to watch the marimekko Spring/Summer collection for 2011.

Being a pattern, design and not-so-secret textile nerd it’s no small wonder that I have a special place in my heart for the Finnish powerhouse of design, Marimekko.

For close to 60 years this design house has been busy playing and creating some of the most stunningly beautiful, bold and lovely prints and designs. I can spot a Marimekko piece a mile away be is a pillowcase, a wall hanging or a dish, just ask Craig. It’s almost as uncanny as my ability to see groundhogs on the side of a highway at 85mph.

Recently I came across this video of Marimekko’s Spring/ Summer 2011 collection was breath taken. The nontraditional set up of the runway in an X  against a wall of hundreds of green plants and a floor adorned with thousands of live flowers, allowing the models to turn and criss-cross rather than simply do the usual runway thing. I can only imagine how wonderful that runway & transformed warehouse smelled.

You might think that such a riot of color could be seen as distracting, and a lesser design house would probably stay with more muted & neutral backgrounds to show off their work, but the genius of Marimekko lies in their designers’ ability to understand and see the harmony of pattern, color, texture, and light in vibrant & expressive combinations. It’s an exaltation of nature as well as hard work. And, with a lovely spot of music by Matti Pentikäinen.

I love you Marimekko!

I’m a little late to post this, my apologies. Summer brain seems to have taken a good hold of me lately when I’m not working.

Anyhoo, here is our latest poster, and we’re pretty danged excited about this one. We’re a part of The New Pornographers tour poster series for their Summer 2010 tour. A tour series is where a band commissions a different poster for each stop on their tour, and it’s always a treat to see the variety of work, as well as it being a super way for fans to connect to that night’s show.

Details:
